Disease/Fungus

Believe it or not, Fungus is also considered a pest. These diseases cause a lot of damage to our grasses and landscape plants. Fungus is usually caused by TOO MUCH MOISTURE.  Too much water causes a rotting effect on plants & grasses. In SW Florida, combined rains, humidity and irrigation on our properties is a perfect recipe for diseases to propagate. There are some diseases, like Dollar Spot Fungus, that can be corrected just by adding extra nutrients. Brown-Patch Fungus is usually caused by too much water & cooler temperatures. Fairy Ring and other mushrooms are caused by moisture and good soil content and usually do not require treatment. Still other diseases, like Ganoderma (butt rot), have no cure at all, causing complete death of many types of palm trees in our landscape.
